Welcome to the wonderful world of Sean Arington |
|
Biography Sean was born and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His first musical memories are of the gospel songs his grandpa Arington wrote and played, as well as the folk music his dad played. All his aunts and uncles sing and play as well, so it was common for him to hear many lovely harmonies in many different styles all through his childhood. Sean wrote his first song when he was nine years old, and his grandpa published it in one of his many songbooks. Shortly after that, he picked up the guitar, just playing by ear after learning a few simple chords from his dad. He was the singer in his first band at age thirteen with several of his school buddies called "The Boyz". They played all AC/DC covers and a couple of Cars tunes, performing for the whole junior high school in a talent show and a dance, and also at a local battle of the bands. Through high school and college, Sean honed his songwriting abilities, writing about his life and the people around him, as he still does to this day. Major musical influences have been The Beatles, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Paul Simon, as well as many others. His sound is all his own, however, bringing his personal style to any song he plays. In the mid nineties, Sean moved to Athens, Georgia to play music with an old, dear friend from college. They played in several bands together, most notably One Big Eye. Later Sean played and briefly toured in a band called Big Atomic, which was favored by Atlanta radio station 99X, and was variously courted by several record labels. Many people ask what kind of music he plays. It would be easy to call it folk, because it looks like folk with a single singer and a guitar, but it's really a lot of things; pop, rock, blues, jazz, soul, and even a little country. For Sean, it isn't about the style, but about the song itself, and the story it wants to tell. The best way to get to know Sean is to listen to his lyrics. He hides nothing from his audience, sometimes very literal in his writing, sometimes more esoteric, but always completely honest and real. Experience it for yourself and take a listen. |
